How it works
IHSS Live Scan in Three Steps.
California requires every IHSS provider to pass a criminal background check before getting paid. Live Scan is how you send your fingerprints for that check.
Get Your IHSS Packet
After your provider orientation, your packet includes the Request for Live Scan Service form. In Los Angeles County, that form comes from PASC.
We Come to Your Client’s Home
We set up at the kitchen table, check your ID and form, and scan your fingerprints. Most caregivers are done in 10 to 15 minutes.
Results Go to PASC
Your fingerprints go electronically to the California DOJ. Results go straight to PASC, and you keep a copy of your form with your tracking number.

These come straight from the IHSS enrollment instructions. Getting them right the first time keeps your enrollment on schedule.
Use the Form From Your Packet
Bring the Live Scan form that came with your IHSS packet. Results from any other form do not reach PASC, and you would have to be fingerprinted again.
Bring Both Copies
Fill in the middle section, from Last Name through Zip Code, on both copies. Leave Billing Number and Misc. Number blank.
One Check Covers All Your Clients
If you care for more than one IHSS client, you only need one background check.
Earlier Checks Don’t Count
A background check you did for another job, a license, or immigration does not replace the IHSS check.
Finish Within 90 Days
IHSS gives you 90 days from the start of enrollment to finish every step, including your background check.
You Pay the Fees
State law makes the provider responsible for the Live Scan and background check fees. Keep your receipt.

How much does IHSS Live Scan cost?
With us, one caregiver is $115 ($50 rolling fee plus $65 mobile fee) plus the $32 state background check fee, for $147 total. A second caregiver at the same home on the same visit is $45 plus their $32 state fee.
Which Live Scan form do IHSS providers use?
Use the Request for Live Scan Service form from your IHSS enrollment packet. In Los Angeles County, PASC provides it. If you use a different form, PASC will not receive your results and you will need to be fingerprinted again.
Can you do my IHSS Live Scan at my client’s home?
Yes. We bring our Live Scan equipment to the home where you provide care, so your client is never left alone. We just need a table and an outlet.
I already did a Live Scan for another job. Do I need another one?
Yes. IHSS requires its own background check. One done for another job, a license, or immigration does not count for IHSS.
I care for two IHSS clients. Do I need two Live Scans?
No. One IHSS background check covers you for every IHSS client you work for.

Yes. Bring the Live Scan form from your own county’s IHSS office. Each county uses its own form, and that form tells us where to send your results.
